WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT LOCALIZED ADIPOSITY
Fat tissue is distributed in the body in two ways: generalized or localized.
With the first, it is evenly distributed throughout the body, even in the muscles.
With the second, the organism has preferential sites of accumulation, for example the abdomen, hips, thighs, etc.
This means that all the calories consumed in addition to one's own needs always end up in the same area. Specific body regions become the preferential reservoir for the accumulation of excess lipids, forming zones with localized adiposity (Fig. 2).
THE CAUSES OF LOCALIZED ADIPOSITY
Localized hyposity is influenced by various factors including genetic predisposition, metabolism, sedentary lifestyle, excessive presence of food toxins. Stress and dietary factors related to unbalanced diets also favor localized fat storage.
The cells that act as a lipid deposit are the adipocytes, located in parts that are typical of the subject and are filled or emptied with fat. The main function of fat cells is the storage of energy in the form of triglycerides.
The cell, filling up with triglycerides, increases its volume until it reaches a maximum value (about 170% of the normal volume). At this point, not being able to accumulate other triglycerides, new adipocytes are differentiated and thus the number of adipose cells with tissue hyperplasia increases.
HOW IT LOOKS
Localized adiposities are accumulations of adipose tissue that tend to persist, sometimes even despite a correct and balanced diet and despite physical activity.
The areas most frequently affected by localized adiposity vary between the two sexes. In women, gynoid type hyposity prevails with fat mass concentrated in the hips, buttocks, thighs and abdomen below the navel.
Unlike cellulite, in the case of localized adiposity there is an increase in the size of the adipose cell, without alteration of the connective tissue and normal vascularization is also maintained.
